“Home Alone” went on to become one of the most successful films of all time, grossing more than $2.8 billion worldwide and winning three Academy Awards. Kevin wakes up on Christmas morning hoping that his family will be home, but they are not, but he hears his mother open the front door and call his name. Kate McCallister has driven home with a performing band, squished tightly into the back of their RV, and is relieved to see her son again. Soon afterwards, the rest of the family, fresh from their flight from Paris, arrive. Kevin does not tell his family about his encounter with the Wet Bandits, but when his father finds the burglar's gold tooth on the floor he wonders what could be. Kevin sees Old Man Marley out of the window and sees that he has invited his son and the family over for Christmas; he watches as they reconcile and the old man greets his beloved granddaughter.

Hannah-Rose Yee of Stylist called the ending "very sweet" and praised the score from John Williams, calling it "fantastic". Christopher Hooton of The Independent also praised the film, calling the film-within-a-film Angels with Filthy Souls "a fond footnote in cinema history". Matt Talbot from Simcoe.com said that the Wet Bandits were "fantastic" and "never old" on "repeat viewings". Michael Walsh of Nerdist noted the church scene as "One of the best, most touching scenes ". Naomi Barnwell of Roobla said that "Home Alone has all the ingredients that make for a great kids’ film".
Home Alone: The Classic Illustrated Storybook
In the end, Home Alone's the McCallisters aren't the best family to be with when it comes to big family trips. They tend to naturally overlook certain crucial aspects and allow themselves to be overwhelmed by some of the tiniest things. But by having one parent focus on the garage rather than if their son had left with them, it explained that it's in their nature not to let extenuating circumstances impact their focus and prioritize those things over what's important. The one-night-only stay at the iconic McCallister movie house in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka takes place Dec. 12 and can host up to four guests. Nearly as exciting as a whole cheese pizza all to yourself, requests to book on Airbnb the real-life "Home Alone" house open Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. As of Tuesday afternoon, all Airbnb reservation requests for the "Home Alone" house have been entirely booked.
Hughes promised that he could make the movie for less than $10 million, considerably less than most feature film production budgets of that era. Concerned that the film might exceed that amount, Hughes met secretly with 20th Century Fox before production to see if they would fund the project if Warner proved inflexible. According to executive producer Scott Rosenfelt, a copy of the script was "clandestinely" delivered to Fox, bypassing the legal restrictions that would have otherwise prevented Fox from seeing it until the project was in turnaround. Early in production, the budget grew to $14.7 million. Warner demanded that it be cut by $1.2 million; the producers responded with a memo arguing that the budget could not be cut any further. Unconvinced, Warner shut down production the next day, but it quickly resumed when Fox took up Hughes on his offer.
Home Alone - 1990- Full Movie
He also runs into Old Man Marley watching a local choir performing in the church; they talk, and Kevin learns that the old man is actually very nice. He is watching the choir because his granddaughter is in it, and he doesn't get to see her anymore because he and his son had a big argument and no longer talk. Kevin advises him to reconcile with his son so that he can spend Christmas with his family. Kevin heads home after church and prepares to booby trap the house so that the bandits cannot break into it.
Pesci later appeared in another ad where he watches the short with his friends and jokes about his brief cameo. Home Alone was the number-one film at the box office for 12 consecutive weeks, from its release weekend of November 16–18, 1990 through the weekend of February 1–3, 1991. It was removed from the top spot when Sleeping with the Enemy opened with $13 million. It remained in the top ten until the weekend of April 26, well past Easter weekend. It made two more appearances in the top ten (the weekend of May 31 – June 2 and the weekend of June 14–16) before finally falling out of the top ten.

I was worried that they would not do the movie the justice it deserved. Well readers, if you liked the movie you will like this children’s book. It does not have the depth that the movie has but it does hold the sentimental value and the excitement that you felt as you watched the movie. It touched on all the great parts of the movie that I held deep and loved and it brought it to a storybook that I could look at and enjoy.
However, there are also others that rely on the family element and remind viewers that there's nothing more important than being with loved ones during Christmas. That said, one film took that concept and turned it on its head in a creative way -- Home Alone. While the film maintained the message and importance of family, it did so in a way never seen before and showed how capable children could be when left alone. That is why I was a little disappointed when I found out that they have left out some of these moments in the childrens book. Especially as a chilrens book I think they would have been better off not leaving out so many funny and great moments.
Kevin starts to miss his family and asks the local Santa Claus impersonator if he could bring his family back for Christmas. He goes to church and watches a choir perform, and encounters Marley, who proves the rumors about him are false. Marley points out his granddaughter in the choir, and mentions he has never met her since she is the daughter of his estranged son.

Home Alone 3, as well as the other films in the franchise, are now streaming on Disney+. The danger has been that there are so many big movies coming out all the time and we were always jostling for place. That’s why I recommended to Fox that we push “Titanic” till Christmas, because we’d have a clear playing field in January and February, and that worked out beautifully. The same strategy worked well with “Home Alone.” And of course we’re going into the same date with “The Way of Water.” But we’re not jostling as much now because there aren’t as many big tentpoles.
Despite keeping the story in Chicago, the McCallisters aren't mentioned nor are any Easter eggs included. Instead, Alex Linz's Alex Pruitt takes center stage in one of the most bombastic home invasion stories ever told. Internet Archive's in-browser video player requires JavaScript to be enabled.
